This video is extremely similar to the conversation we had in class pertaining to black ASL and mainstream ASL. Language directly defines who you are as a person. When you see a person engaging in ASL, you immediately know that person has some connection to to the deaf community. With the language of ASL, there are different types. In class it was brought to my attention that although the word pregnant has one meaning there is two ways you can sign it dependent on what type of ASL you are engaging in. This is a prime example of Code Switching within the language of ASL.

Code Switching
The video I chose to elaborate upon is the video
where the young boy switches from three
different languages.(English,Portuguese and French) This is a
prime example of Code Switching because it although these three different language are
their own individual language, this boy seems to combine to two and create his
own uniform language. He seems to switch according to who is
speaking to him. When his father (who seems to be a predominately French
speaker) talks to him he seems adjust according to who is speaking to
me."When you watch young multilingual kids code-switching between
three languages, it looks almost like a superpower." This is exactly how I
viewed this video. The way this boy transitions from three different languages
does in fact seem like a superpower. I have never seen anything like it. It's
like this boy has three completely different sides. I find
it intriguing of how much power language has. Our
dialects truly do define a huge part of us as people. You can tell a
lot about a person just by having a brief conversation with them.
